G-Recycler Incentive based Solid Waste Management Model

The Problem of Solid Waste in India:

  1. Source segregation of waste not happening
  2. Improper waste disposal practices leading to spread of diseases
  3. Dumping waste everywhere leads to the clogging of drains, and contamination of water bodies creating unhygienic conditions
  4. Irregular or no waste collection in most rural areas
  5. Lack of overall awareness & ignorance of solid waste as revenue & employment generation source
  6. Sorting of waste mostly accomplished by unorganized sector & seldom practiced by waste producers
  7. Most models are operating in a centralized manner, leading to inefficiencies and higher cost
  8. Lack of data inputs to drive solid waste management initiatives
  9. High capital and operational cost of conventional solid waste management model, discouraging implementation
  10. No proper monitoring of operational waste management model, leading to inefficienre.

We through our system, wanted to address the above-mentioned issues of managing solid waste in villages. For any solid waste management initiative to be efficient, impactful and low-cost, collection and segregation of waste at source is essential. This has formed our approach in developing the solution for this problem, with low infrastructure, medium technology, high public engagement.

Overall Objective

By pursuing these objectives, our incentive-based solid waste management program aims to create a sustainable waste management model that effectively tackles environmental challenges, promotes community participation, and leads to long-term benefits for both the environment and society.

Our Solution: G-Recycler

By pursuing these objectives, our incentive-based solid waste management program aims to create a sustainable waste management model that effectively tackles environmental challenges, promotes community participation, and leads to long-term benefits for both the environment and society.

By infusing optimum technology and keeping minimum infrastructure, we came up with a solution called G-Recyclers (Incentive Based Solid Waste Management) which states that-   “If collection can be incentivized for all sorts of waste, ranging from a small packet, polythene to plastic bottles, paper, and organic waste etc., public engagement towards any solid waste management programs can be increased, thereby improving source segregation, collection, and recycling. This is the basic philosophy of G- Recyclers which is being implemented in urban as well as rural areas.”
